The 2017's from Copia Vineyards

A Grenache-dominated blend that includes 17% Syrah, aged 20 months mostly in once-used barrels, the 2017 The Story offers a ripe, sweet nose of plums, bay leaf, incense, and candied blood orange. This carries to a medium to full-dobies blend that's fruit-forward and has ripe, polished tannins, a good mid-palate, and a solid finish. Drink this pleasure-bent effort over the coming 5-6 years.

There are 120 cases of the 2017 The Cure, which is a mix of 47% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 19% Mourvedre, and the rest Roussanne aged 20 months in 25% new French oak. Ripe red plums, incense, black pepper, and new leather notes all emerge from this medium to full-bodied, ripe, polished effort that has solid balance, plenty of fruit, no hard edgets, and a great finish.

A Syrah-dominated blend that includes 10% Grenache, brought up in 40% new barrels, the 2017 The Source reveals a deep purple/plum color as well as a classic bouquet of bloody red and blue fruits, bouquet garni, bacon fat, and spring flowers. With an incredible, cool-climate bouquet, medium to full body, a rounded, sexy texture, and a great finish, it's a terrific head-turning Syrah from this estate that I suspect will drink well for a decade.

A blend you don't find often outside of the Central Coast (maybe in Provence) of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Syrah, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon reveals a deep purple color as well as Cabernet-dominated notes of blackcurrants, tobacco leaf, bouquet garni, and lead pencils. Aged 20 months in 80% new French oak, this full-bodied, beautifully textured blend has ripe, polished tannins, no hard edges, and a great finish. It's a ripe, sexy Santa Barbara County Cabernet Sauvignon to drink over the coming 10-15 years.
