2018 The Cure
Inky, fleshy, and sexy. What more can one ask for in a Paso Robles G-S-M? The 2018 Cure is an even proportion of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. The Cure’s innate earthiness is what makes it stand out from our other blends. Think smoked meat and olive tapenade. A very “Rhône” bouquet of Herbs de Provence and blue fruit also comes through, but there is plenty of individuality in this bold wine. The Cure is concentrated, medium- to full-bodied with mature tannins. As with all our wines, you can enjoy its qualities now or cellar this gem for 10-15 years.
93 pts, Vinous | "Saturated ruby. Aromas of fresh red/blue fruits, vanilla and pungent flowers pick up a spicy top-note as the wine opens up. Displays sharp definition and spicy lift to fresh boysenberry, cherry cola and lavender pastille flavors, which deepen through the midpalate. Copia’s homage to the wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, “The Cure” is, in 2018, a very rich, full-bodied working that is simply bursting with deep, oak-enriched, ripe cherry and berry fruit. Solidly built, but neither too tannic nor so tough that it warns off near-term drinking, it is, nonetheless, a wine of excellent structure that will do nothing other than reveal more polish and layering with age, and our choice would be to resist its immediate appeals and lay it away for another three or four years
Varietals were handpicked in October and November at the peak of flavor ripeness and phenolic maturity. Grapes were carefully cluster sorted, 100% destemmed and fermented in stainless steel. After a cold maceration, élevage included daily punch-downs, pump-overs and pneumotage. The wine rested for 20 months 53% new French oak. Bottled on June 23, 2020.
